Next on our Switzerland itinerary was Geneva. My dad and I planned to spend three days here, but I also took a quick trip to Lyon to visit a travel buddy I met while living in New Zealand.
The train ride from Lausanne to Geneva was scenic and convenient, covering about 51 kilometers (32 miles) in 35 to 51 minutes, depending on the train. Swiss Railways (SBB/CFF/FFS) operates frequent services, with tickets ranging from CHF 17 to CHF 45 (around USD 19 to 49), based on the class and type of train.
Despite another cloudy and rainy day, I spent August 1st, 2021 exploring the city. Geneva’s highlights include the Jet d’Eau, a stunning fountain that shoots water 140 meters into the air, and the charming old town, home to St. Peter’s Cathedral and the Maison Tavel, the oldest house in Geneva.
Nature lovers will enjoy a stroll through the beautiful Parc des Bastions and the English Garden, which features the famous Flower Clock. Additionally, the shores of Lake Geneva offer stunning views and opportunities for boat tours.
Geneva is also widely known for its excellent luxury watchmaking. I am not to keen on watches although I do find it fascinating that luxury watches have survived the dominance of modern cell phones. My dad and I went into several watch stores.
Cheers!
