As part of my quest to visit 35 countries by age 35 (June 2024), Liechtenstein was a must-visit for its unique charm as a micro-nation. Nestled amidst the stunning landscapes of the Alps, Vaduz, the capital city, beckoned with its promise of history, culture, and natural beauty.
Located just a short drive from Paul’s house near Saint Gallen, the journey to Vaduz was a scenic 50-kilometer (31 miles) drive taking about 45 minutes to an hour. On July 27th, 2021, we arrived in Vaduz, a city known for its cleanliness and compact size, perfect for exploring on foot.
A highlight for any visitor is the tourist office where I eagerly collected a stamp in my passport, marking another unique addition to my travel collection. Despite its small size, Liechtenstein surprised me with its picturesque landscapes and unexpectedly perfect weather, making it a photographer’s dream.

Our first stops included Vaduz Castle, perched elegantly above the city, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding area. St. Florin Cathedral, with its neo-Gothic architecture, provided a glimpse into Vaduz’s rich cultural heritage.

The following day, after picking up my dad from the airport, we ventured up to the castle once more, enjoying the panoramic views and a deeper appreciation for this tiny yet fascinating country.

Visiting Liechtenstein was not just about ticking off another country from my list but also immersing myself in its history, capturing its beauty through my lens, and collecting memories that would last a lifetime.
Cheers to Country 25!
